BabyBjörn AB had spent years developing potties and already knew a great deal about the way children behave when they go to the toilet, so no great stretch of the imagination was required to come up with our toilet trainer. Many children are keen to feel “grown up” and use the “proper” toilet just like their parents. There were several toilet trainer varieties on the market, but none of them was really good. So what we did was listen, film and learn… Many toilet trainers were unsteady, making it impossible for children to feel safe and comfortable sitting at the new height. And while others reduced the size of the opening of the toilet, the seat was so high that children were afraid to sit on them or felt unable or unwilling to use them. Several of the toilet trainers did not fit very well into all the different toilet types. Many parents also found that their children splashed between the toilet trainer and the bowl, making the trainer unhygienic. Another aspect we learned about concerned the risk of children playing with the trainer and pushing their heads through the opening without being able to get it out again. (Children rarely use a product solely for its intended purpose).
